Why do some men on this section take credit for other men's contributions to mankind?

Asked by BOSS at 01 May,2013
"Men made civilisation what it is today". I wouldn't dream of having the temerity to take credit for what scientists, construction workers, and other kinds of inventors formulated. That being said, I'm still working on my time machine. I don't suppose any of you have a spare set of screws, do you? Wilkinson's is closed now. Cheers. Women, answer this without any shred of emotion, please. <<

"Riding the Bandwagon" Thinking that just because we're men, if one man succeeds then we all succeed. Wanting to feel as important as the great men who paved the way for us to be where we are today - for good or bad. Funny how while some men want to take flase credit for when another man succeeds, they also are quick to denounce any false credit for when a man screws up or does something awful (rape, murder etc). That's when you hear the "just because that guy did that, doesn't make us all guilty" type of talk.

Other Answers:
  1. It's a shaming tactic by a lot of MRAs. Just like how they blame "feminist" for the sinking of the Titanic...
  2. I don't know, it seems silly. Can I take credit for what brunettes accomplished, since I too am a brunette?

I have lots of screws, but I can't throw that far :(
  3. I don't mind them taking credit for what einstein did. Just as long as they take credit for hitler did. Of course its the logical thing to do but they won't. A man (nor woman) cannot use what someone else did to prove they themselves are superior.
  4. With the absence of heart, all we need to do in order to travel back in time at the speed of light is was TV. If we want to travel forward we need to right it. (This is the trouble with Maya, it tells what we want to know) Time is light and light is time.

The 4 Veda's written in Sanskrit around 3500 years ago gave rise to Hinduism which teaches about Maya ~ The Malevolent illusion, and Samsara ~ Mechanical Karma REALITY! - The outer Kingdom, empirical knowledge, and according to early Christian gnosticism - "Seraphims" Keter - Crown Divine Plan ~ The Angel of Death.

Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.

Surah Al-Hadid (its title meaning, 'the iron') talks about the reality of the transient life of this world. Several descriptive words are used to reveal to us its true nature. After that, Allāh warns us to remember that the life of this world is nothing but a ”deceptive enjoyment”.

    Hinduism.
In which this universe like a snake on a rope imagined appears.
Bliss-Supreme Bliss: That: Consciousness you are happily live.

You are that Consciousness, Bliss-Supreme Bliss, in and upon which this universe appears superimposed, like a snake on a rope. Live happily.

Like etc.-This is an oft-repeated analogy of Advaita. In the dark of night a rope is mistaken for a snake. The rope does not really become a snake; it has no other reality than the rope itself. In the same way this universe has no real existence. It is the Self-Pure Consciousness and Supreme Bliss-in which this universe, through ignorance, is seen to exist. Consciousness, which is the substratum of the universe, remains eternally pure and unaffected. We are that Consciousness. Therefore we must cease identifying ourselves with the superimposed universe, and thus we shall be happy. P.9 Chapter 9 â€" 10 Astavakra Samhita SWAMI NITYASWARUPANANDA

  5. Well, if you notice it's usually in conjunction with the notion that women don't do really anything of value. It's because they think women are worthless (except maybe for having sex with). Why they think that could be for all types of reasons.
  6. I suppose for the same reason that many feminists blame men generally for the transgressions of a small minority of men.
  7. yes but the greatness of our fathers inventions was passed on to us like herpes.

And to be honest i've been working on my own time machine. unfortunately the flux capacitor has bore a hole in the time space continuum and is hampering my efforts for world domination.

I'm planning on going back to the stone age and setting up a burger joint. the very first. think of the money... i'll be rich, richer beyond the dreams of avarice!!!!!
  8. "Riding the Bandwagon"

Thinking that just because we're men, if one man succeeds then we all succeed.

  9. Nobody's taking credit for other men's contributions to mankind.

"Men made civilisation what it is today".

That isn't taking credit for what men in the past have done for the society.

Just as saying "Most inventions/discoveries/scientific advancements have been by men." isn't.

    Its a fact.

For many years now, Feminists have been about stealing credit and assigning them to women - there was a major debate amongst Feminists who claimed that most of Einstein's theories and accomplishments were actually by his wife.

So they do have a reason to come up with the question: "What did YOU invent?" when anybody says "Most inventions/discoveries/scientific advancements have been by men."

ETA: Besides, sexists always accuse men of today, for the crimes of our forefathers. So I don't see anything inherently wrong in saying that most scientific advancements [and in the present] have been and still are by men, in defense against such accusations.
  10. society blames men for all the bad things in the world, so why get mad when men like to point out they do good as well?
  11. Volumes of books have been written about the contributions women have made to society. Universities offer courses on the subject. Why should anyone be offended if someone factually mentions the contributions of men?
  12. feminists sank the titanic ?? the plot thickens ..
  13. same reason why women want men to take the blame for what evil guys did in the past
  14. I don't know why they think they can do that. But it's annoying.

"Look around you. Everything great was done by us men"

Us? I'm sorry, were you there at the time, helping out? Also, they act like it would have all been accomplished if there were no women there. I don't think so..

    I don't know, ego's i guess?
  15. Yes, I have quite a few extras screws to which you are welcome. (As I am sure you have long suspected, many of them are loose.)

Boss, has it never occurred to you that just maybe all the men who invented everything in the past might simply be Gender Studies Regulars (pbut) now? After all, why bother to invent civilisation and the Internet if not so that they could post on Yahoo! Answers? TC is a lovely orange.
  16. I don't think they are taking credit, merely acknowledging that men deserve recognition for their accomplishments (and not just the bad things you hear on the media).

All we hear about is how all men are scum/pigs. So when a guy in this section points to male contribution, it's in response to the negativity (and not to take credit).
