Was there ever a time when there wasn't many people who mocked and challenged women's equality?

Asked by Jess at 21 May,2013
I've seen idea float around here. I'm guessing these users are young and/or not big readers. @Girly: So do you think that the feminist movement currently isn't challenged and mocked? I thought the official stance of antifeminists was that feminism doesn't have support because we're all man-haters (who also feel sorry for ourselves, I suppose). Anyway, to clarify, I notice that there is an idea that feminism had a blank check with society at some point. I suppose this is why they think the courts and lawmakers are ruled by feminists. @Java: Anyone who thinks that isn't right in the head.

I'm trying to think how any group, especially one that wishes to change societal norms, can have no opposition...

Other Answers:
  1. Not these days so stop trying to feel sorry for yourself. Oh please I'm not that dumb feminism is for the special interest of White women especially middle class and upper. They done nothing to to help non White women.
  2. No.But they weren't representative of the "average man".
People who challenged women's equality were
Conservative womens groups(who were trying to hold onto their patriarchal privilege),labor unions(who had a vested interest in keeping women out of the workforce as it would lower wages) and alimony racketeers(women).

21st century "equality "however isn't equality at all,it's pretty much equality without all the things(which are equal) that feminists disagree with.

    Anti-feminist=/= MRA

There is nothing "radical" about believing that men don't have the insatiable urge to beat/rape women.
  3. no

and i see instead of answers

you are getting personally attacked as usual
  4. Well according to some radical female supremacists, there was a time when we all lived under a matriarchy and all was peaceful and well, until evil men filled with a lust for power and greed, created patriarchy and started oppressing women. So I guess, back then, before patriarchy.

These aren't my beliefs. These are beliefs of some of your more radical sisters.
  5. women willing to fight to be accepted as deserving equal chances and opportunities as men get have always been around, as have men willing to oppress them and hold them back. this is life.

but the number of people of both sexes who are not going to settle for anything less than equality (not supremacy on either side) is growing.
  6. Seeing as how so many things were "achieved" throughout this last century, you'd tend to think that there wasn't that much resistance. And when you look at the state of affairs today, where it's become taboo (outside of GS) to even mention feminists in not a good light. There are still a lot of people out there who think (due to feminist social brainwashing) that:

Criticism of the feminist movement = not desiring equality or being a misogynist.
  7. In ancient europe women were dominant and the people worshipped godesses.

Each gender has either been on top or on bottom.

People just can't fathom the idea of equality for some reason....
  8. There have always been detractors of all 3 major feminist movements in the United States and with each movement, these particular radical anti-feminists were and are a loud minority. The 1st wave detractors were mostly made up of traditional men and women from the poor and middle class. Chauvinism and self-deprecation played a big role.

As for the detractors in the 2nd wave, they varied, but most were from religion. And the same can be said for the detractors in the 3rd wave. However, with the 3rd wave, the internet has become a hot bed for radical anti-feminists and their loud voices. They seem mightier than they are though. Most of their sources for the alleged rise of people being against feminism are far from credible and/or authoritative(The Daily Mail, A Voice for Men, etc.).
