My grandparents may have spoiled me from time to time, but they laid down the law on me when I had it coming. So not all grandparents treat kids differently than the actual parents.

Other Answers:
  1. because grandparents arent responsible for kids. if the grandparent looked after the child on a regular basis they might punish them more.
i know people who were raised by their grandparents and only saw their parents on occasions, in this instance the grandparents did more of the punishing and the parents did more of the spoiling.

  3. Because becoming a grandparent is the ultimate revenge on your children.
  4. It's not the grandparents' job to raise their grandchildren [not usually]. Disciplining is a parental job. Grandparents have already gone through it, now it's their turn to enjoy their grandchildren, rather than being sure they grow up to be able-bodied, contributing members of society. The time spent with grandparents is normally a limited amount of time, and they can give the kids back to their parents.
  5. parents have to raise you, grand parents just have to watch you.
