Many child abusers were abused themselves as children (note: this doesn't mean most victums of child abuse become child abusers--most of them do not). Some of them have personality disorders (e.g., antisicial, narcissistic, borderline) and some have personality disorder tendencies. Some of them could have Intermitant Explosive Disorder.
Other Answers:
- anger problems
- Loners, unattractive people who think children are easier meat. May have been abused in their childhood. Not cared for by parents.
Mo - Fear induced anger. You'll never see the fear, but you'll see the anger over little things.
Most were mentally abused as children in addition to physical abuse. - There probably are as many different characteristics of child abusers as there are child abusers! All are without conscience; the successful ones are very convincing to children and project great caring.
