How to get over being shy.?

Asked by Krystina at 17 May,2013
I have been shy my entire life, it has gotten better as I got older, but I can't seem to shake it! I'm beginning to think I may be this way for my whole life. When I get introduced to new people, I often blush alot and smile, I'm awkward in social situations and I only have 1 good friend (who happens to be my bf) An old friend of mine's mom said I should've gotten over this by now, but my dad is 56 and still shy at times...what do I do?

overcome shyness at everychance you get..after all today's world prefer smartness other than shyness..once you start trying to come out of it..it will be more and more easier for you to overcome..everytime you feel like doing something activity alone, instead try to do it as a group..it will really help you in socializing and overcoming shyness

  1. WALK UP TTO SOMEONE AND PUNCH THEM IN THE FACE THEN GIVE THEM A BANANA AND SCREEM AND RUN AWAY :DD
  2. GET OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE AND TALK TO PEOPLE.
  3. Be bold. You have to realize that you shouldn't care what people think of you. If you make a fool of yourself WHO CARES?! All that matters is what you think. (:
  4. v both r sailing in the same boat so if u find any ways pls say me

  6. ya know what! im the same way! i do that all the time! only when im talking to a guy! but i have found that talking to guys helps me overcome my shyness! if it wasnt for my guy friends ... i wouldnt be able to tell any guy how i feel! i wouldnt be able to open myself up to anyone about loving feelings! but you'll be fine ... like that person said just step out of your comfort zone a little and see how things can change! we all have many chance in life where we can overcome shyness! when the moment comes you just have to take that chance! you can do it!
  7. it doesn't get any better - in fact it gets worse given society's overall reliance on these types of social interactions
but it sounds like your dad manages to handle it
  8. Honestly, saying what you feel is the the best way to just breakout of shyness. I mean most people who are shy often think too much over what they want to say out loud , making sure know one gets awkward over what you've said and aren't weirded out, but just relaxing and not caring over how people will react seriously helps. I mean why care so much, if you open up to people right from the beginning you'll see the real friends who accept you for you!!!
Besides, making a good first impression is so over rated!!
    Hope this helps!!!
  9. Get off the internet, and go live in the real world. I take long breaks from the computer because I find it makes me less social in my "real" life
  10. I use to be the same way or worse, i hatted doing speeches, i had very few friends, and i still only have a few, but thats not a bad thing really its just who you are.

If you feel you need to change then, its going to take time and effort. To me its an awesome thing that you do have a bf though, thats a very good start. Girls aren't all there cracked up to be, but some of them are pretty nice.

Being confident is knowing who you are, no matter what anyone else says. And standing up for yourself is a big one.
