Why exactly is the Jodi Arias trial such a big deal?

Asked by No Chance Without Zekrom at 16 May,2013
I don't get it. It sounds like just another murder case to me. Yeah, there's been some things thrown in about domestic violence and mental disorders, but those often come up in murder trials anyway. So what's with all the media coverage (pretty sure the media has plenty of stuff to use for its trolling)? Am I missing something here? Is there something I'm not getting?

The things I heard in that murder trial ive never heard a prosecutor ask in any trial before. And I will tell you ive sat in court room proceedings and Ive watch tons of court tv (before they changed it to tru tv). The prosecutor asked her straight up "what do you like about it when he lets go on your face" she said "i love the feeling of it, it just feels good, sometimes except when it gets in your eye". Most women would want to keep the good girl image. She was a definite wild card. I will say this semi attractive (kinda looked barely above average to me and the stab killed that) woman 27 stab wounds, who openly talks about sex like its nothing, shot in the head and ex boyfriend? Yeah its going to make the news. What keeps it interesting is shes a white woman and people think "its one of us". The media knows that so they blow it up. They know what people are going to watch. Same thing would happen to a black or mexican woman they know the public wouldn't even blink an eye. Casey Anthony, Lorena Bobbit, Marry Wrinkler, Betty Gore (ready about it a while ago), Cynthia summers, ill stop there but i can think of plenty of more. And i didnt even go into the school cases with students and women adults.

Other Answers:
  1. It got high ratings because it's kind of sexy.

An obsessed, young, fairly attractive girl took a bunch of kinky naked pictures with her ex-boyfriend and then stabbed and shot him.

That's got "Fatal Attraction" written all over it.

It isn't important, it's just kind of titillating.
  2. It was a brutal murder, and she is attractive.Same thing happened in the Casey Anthony trial
  3. It got lots of attention because of the promise of lots of sexual content, I suppose.
  4. It's not. Everyone will have forgotten about her in no time.

People just like interesting bullshit to gossip about. Did you miss grade school or something?
  5. She was obviously guilty - yet she made comments to the press saying she would get away with it - and lied constantly.

She murdered her boyfriend in cold blood - and she, and many people following the case, thought that the system may let her get away with it.

The public are becoming acutely aware of the difference in how males and females are treated by the law. I think a lot of people were expecting her to get away with it.
  6. Because it is unusually for a women to kill in such a violent way. Men do it all the time, its not really news.
  7. Jodi: I didn't do it! No jury will find me guilty! He ran into my knife! He ran into my knife 27 times ..!
  8. It's particularly interesting because it's a woman that murdered an ex-boyfriend. She didn't just murder him, she tortured him and made sure HE knew that she was the one that was going to kill him.

I really hope she fries for that.
