The idea that "opposites attract" is a lazy attempt at describing relationships where the man and the woman involved somehow appear to be polar opposites to other people. It was taken from a basic magnetic behavior which science explains, to explain how people who otherwise seem incompatible, somehow make their relationships work. M&B novels did their part in reinforcing this idea that somehow people who are complete opposites to the point of being unfit to be with each other, are indeed attracted to each other, simply because they are "opposites". To describe relationships with this paradigm is often faulty because it attempts to describe people who are in love with each other just because they are "opposites", when in reality, what's actually remarkable is when people who make their relationships work., despite being opposites,

Other Answers:
  1. No.
  2. I interpret it to mean in terms of personality. Like, introvert versus extrovert. Stuff like that.

I don't pay much attention to others' relationships, so I can't say I have.
  3. i dont think it works like that
its more like overly sensitieve and stable emotionally
    or assertive /blunt and diplomatic
its not like ugly and beautiful attract
  4. Obese women in western society go out with fit guys, because women in western society are held to low standards, whereas the men are expected to be everything.

Many Western women fall in love with convicted serial killers, because they want to be with a man that excites them.

Many educated western women like to date losers, for god knows what reason.

    Yes, yes, and yes.

  6. I believe that opposites attract to a certain degree. People with different personalities and different interests may somehow connect with each other and work because of the excitement of trying to figure the other out and being taught some new things.

But people are who completely incompatible with each other and are polar opposites, I would say that they attract is false.

Maybe initially, they may find each other fascinating and different but in the long term, these types of partnerships never work out. If there is no other common ground or familiarity other than pure love, then an opposite union will not work.
  7. maybe not "successful" relationships, but I have seen them.
