like bitchy women. i'm not just talking about the ones who are really hot. i've known lots of guys who were with average-looking or homely women who are just nasty, demanding, and all-around unpleasant. sometimes these guys are even quite good-looking themselves. barring low self-esteem, what could be the reason so many guys seem to go for the domineering types? in my experience a good bit of men seem to prefer bitchy women. i'm just wondering the reasons for this.

This is so true! Men always say that women take advantage of and walk all over nice guys. But it goes both ways. Nice women are often taken for granted, taken advantage of, used, and easily dismissed. I don't know why some men like bithcy women, but a theory could be that they are inexperienced and don't know how to pick a good partner. Sometimes it takes a nasty relationship or bitter divorce for a guy to be able to have a relationship with, and appreciate a nice woman.

Yup...you're right. There are guys who are quite attractive...who are with some very obnoxious and/or oppressive, unattractive women.
I also noticed that there is an omnipotent innuendo that men who are not all that...aren't good enough for women who are not all that.
Case in point: in the film "Muriel's Wedding" (which I do love, for the record), Muriel is asked out at the video store where she works by a patron who has a crush on her. Muriel at that point is sweet and growing in self confidence, but the young man who asks her out is not exactly unattractive...just a little bit awkward. And yet when Muriel's friend Rhonda sees him, she says "well, he's a start." And I was thinking...they'd actually make a pretty cute couple...just saying.

But you can't really bar low self esteem because it's absolutely a factor. Another factor could be that some of these men...developed very dependent instincts on their Mother's, and depending upon how their Mother acted around them, they could be projecting onto a bitchy woman, and become dependent on her even though they could do better than her in terms of dating aesthetics. - Well there are different reasons for this. While many men are "sowing their wild oats", they will generally choose women that are submissive and easy push overs. But when they're ready to settle down with a woman, they will generally pick a dominant woman that just appears to be "bitchy", but is really just a strong and confident woman. Lots of people get confused when they see women that are strong and confident because of archaic gender constructs(like a woman can't be strong and confident without looking and sounding like a b--).
Another reason is because lots of these particular men have mothers that act like this and when they're ready to settle down and be monogamous, they tend to choose women that are like them.
And finally, some of these men are blinded by love and don't see what everyone else is seeing. - i think it's kind of true maybe, but the difference is guys don't complain about women they have dated like women do
- I think... Men love a woman with confidence. And honestly... nasty women, mostly... have confidence about their self :)

- Yes I know. This type your talking about. Specifically when you say homely, unpleasant looking, & very obnoxious over bearing & sometimes demeaning to their significant other & then you look at the dude & he is semi to attractive composed & what not.
I really think these men must like a woman with authority over them. Or they really don't see themselves of worthy of more. - It might have to do with their negative experience with their mother figure(s). Another part of it could be that, if you let somebody treat you like dirt, maybe they'll at least love you for real, if you let them take out their baggage on you.
