I'm just after reasons, and i'm talking about children as young as 4/5. Thanks Woody,at 4/5, our kids are learning how to finger paint at nursery. Not learning how to use guns, and shoot deer. I'm personally disgusted by the thought, and i would smack my boys round the head if they even thought of doing such things. Does this explain why America is always on our news for "kid shoots up school"? Seems like it WW, but that wouldn't happen where i live. And for good reason! Just look at your lot, kids going on mass shootings... AA, Just different cultures i guess. And i'm glad that guns are not part of mine. And it's not even like all the kids are learning how to use guns in self defence, they're being taught, from nursery age, how to use them to kill animals! Disgusting Rawr, exactly. I dont understand this "gun thing" that Americans have, and i never will. It seems corrupt to me. Why would you give a 5 yr old a gun? What reason is there..none.

They sell guns for five year olds there. Its not just irresponsible adults giving guns to five year olds to use. The gun companies design and manufacture guns specifically for parents to give to their five year olds. http://news.yahoo.com/5-old-boy-shoots-2-old-sister-ky-161229579.html Read the first paragraph... And then the fourth. Gun control? That country doesn't even have the basic common sense not to give children guns. "The company that made the gun, Milton, Pa.-based Keystone Sporting Arms, produced 60,000 Crickett and Chipmunk rifles in 2008, according to its website. It also makes guns for adults, but most of its products are geared toward children. The smaller guns come in all sorts of colors, including blue and pink. The company's slogan is "my first rifle" and its website has a "Kids Corner" section where pictures of young boys and girls are displayed, most of them showing the children at shooting ranges and on bird and deer hunts. The smaller rifles are sold with a mount to use at a shooting range." I'm reading this to my boyfriend as I typed this and he's like, now their slogan can be "my first murder".
Other Answers:
- they also sexualise children in pageants. america is fucked up
- If youre gonna have guns, you have to know how to use them properly and safely.
Although, even I would say 4 or 5 years old is probably too young. - Most people don't, but it's a different culture. There have been cases when 6/7 year old kids have saved families lives from robbers.
FACT: Chicago has the strictest gun control laws in the USA and one of the highest gun murder rates. - Many people here love guns....
- I don't know, as i am English, it seems a very strange thing to do, but the USA is really a comparatively young country and maybe they will resolve this in the future. In England, it was not unusual for people to have pistols, and I guess that the upper classes at least, taught their children how to shoot.
- I'm American and I hate guns with a passion. And even thought of my brother holding a gun sickens me.
- To start learning gun safety and proper use of guns? Hey, my dad had all of his children learning ABOUT guns at a very young age, because they are out there whether you use them or not. It isn't a bad idea to be comfortable with them. He would never have a 4 or 5 year old touching or shooting guns...I've never heard of that happening and I've got some very irresponsible gun nuts in my family.
- I think my children need to learn how to use guns? Hmm, never knew that, thanks for enlightening me.
- Since when do we think that?
How children get a hold of guns is the parents fault. It has nothing to do with gun laws. - oh no, that's crazy to me. i was thinking maybe like 12 or 13, minimum.
- 4 or 5 is too young. However, it's not a bad age to start teaching them to respect firearms. Don't teach them to fear the guns. That's when they start to get curious and want to get a little dangerous. Why did mommy ban me from even looking at this? Let's find out.
This takes some of the mystery out of guns and keeps children from want to to PLAY with them. Make sure they know that it can be dangerous, like fire, but something useful, also like fire. If you make it something that is forbidden to even think about, well then that's when you have stories of children accidentally shooting each other in the face.
Now, some will say why not get rid of or even ban guns. That is unacceptable to many, including myself. My firearms are there first and foremost for the defense of my family and myself. I will not get rid of my guns just because SOME people can't be trusted to take proper responsibility for their guns. Some people can't be trusted with booze and cars either, but we don't ban either one of those.
Fun fact: My father taught me how to load and shoot his firearms when I was 11. He never kept them or the ammo locked up. I never shot up a school or even contemplated it. This is because he taught to respect, but not fear, firearms. He also taught me respect for human life.
Guns don't kill people, Hannah. - To defend themselves against someone trying to harm them or their family or to hunt animals for food.
There is nothing wrong with teaching your children how to use a gun properly and safely. - They sell guns for five year olds there. Its not just irresponsible adults giving guns to five year olds to use. The gun companies design and manufacture guns specifically for parents to give to their five year olds.

I'm reading this to my boyfriend as I typed this and he's like, now their slogan can be "my first murder". - Children at the age of 4 and 5 should never be allowed to operate a firearm and I've never even heard of it until the recent case in the news. I'm guessing that's "why" it made the news, as most Americans do not approve of children that age using guns.
However, if you have guns in your home, children between 4 and 12 should at least be taught about the guns(not necessarily how to use them), but they should also always be locked up. I was taught how to use guns at the age of 13 by my mother and sometimes by my grandfather. My mom taught me how to use handguns for protection and my grandfather taught me how to use a rifle for hunting. It was that simple. - Because... it's better that the little tikes know what they're doing when they decide to pick up a gun. Imagine if they were clueless. THAT would be dangerous.
Edit: Hey, MY kids haven't gone on a shooting spree all year. - A great many of them are stuck in 1776.
though difference is, in 1776 you didn't have hand held weapons that could mow down hundreds of people a minute. lol
times change, but i admire their spirit, believing they could stop government tyranny.
