Why is it that most working class women do not identify as feminists?

Asked by Temple ♥ Patriarchy at 04 May,2013
Just google it Boss. So, according to feminists, if a woman does not support feminism, she must be stupid? Okay, that does not explain the college educated non-feminists women... but whatever.

Well, we have had equal opportunities for a while now. So we working class women decided to pick up our skirts and get back to it, rather than linger and get greedy. =^-*= I've never had less opportunities than any men in my community/social class, so being a feminist in modern times never occurred to me until I took a gender studies class in college. Edit: Hypernova, most women are not feminists. But lots of GSers call all the women here feminists simply because we value women and men equally rather than throwing women under the bus.

Other Answers:
  1. I'm not sure about this one.
  2. Coz feminists are women who have nothing better to do.

The regular women wouldn't complain about something as meaningless
  3. I work to survive an also I enjoy working, but I don't agree with feminist principles

  5. yet its the lower and working classes that have been most disadvantaged by it.

take single mothers. "a woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle" - well that didn't work out too good for single mothers now did it ? now they work, and do ALL the housework, ALL the stuff around the house, ALL the child raising - live in poverty for the most part - zero social mobility for her - or her children. generational poverty starts right here.

And yeah, these women would not identify as feminists.. probably don't know anything about feminism - but certainly feminism has played a big role in how they got to be where they are - "fathers are not needed, marriage is a form of oppression, marriage is outdated, women can do it all, be independent." - I think these women have been short changed.

And its your uni educated, middle and upper class feminists, who go on to have lovely lives with lovely marriages who insist single motherhood is a great thing. hypocrites if you ask me.

feminism has done the lower classes no favors.. what do feminists always go on about ? more female CEO's and female politicians - you think these single mothers are gonna be CEOs and politician's ?

no they are not - but don't marry, or be oppressed by a man around the house whatever you do. get on the welfare and be "independent"

    what a joke.
  6. While most feminist ideas are mainstream identifying as a feminist often has a lot to do with your level of education. Feminism has roots in college campuses and still thrives there to this day. Feminism is also likely to be demonized as liberal mumbo-jumbo in conservative working class communities.
  7. Busy working.
  8. Its as Sexy Dog says. Traditional, working class people- both men and women- view feminists as liberals and fanatics. The biggest indicator of feminism in a woman is her level of education and , unfortunately our level of education correlates positively with our class.
  9. That's progress.

Fifty years ago, a woman wanting a full-time job was considered a feminist.

Now, a woman wanting to work is considered normal.

Feminists are not calling women stupid. That's your characterization.
