I was thinking, poor is two people on £10,000 a year or less. Middle class- two people on £18,000 a year to £40,000. Rich= £40,000 plus. what are your thoughts? Hmm, I was bought up in an area where people only earned about 15k on average. shows what economic disparity does to people I guess. We aren't living beyond our means. Things are more expensive here. 18k is a lot to me. Similar to another answerer I was bought up in a family of 4 earning between 9-11k a year. $30k I think is £16k, not actually a bad amount of money even in the UK for one person. $30k I think is £16k, not actually a bad amount of money even in the UK for one person.

Poor is a wage below £16K Middle class is never a lowish wage of £18K, my son earns more than that and is not middle class Rich is a wage over £100k

- What 90% of Americans are making now? under 60,000 a year

Rich is a wage over £100k - That's funny...I'm doing very well on only $30K a year. You people must be living beyond your means.
- I'd say under 25-30k is poor. Middle class is between 40 and 90k. Upper middle is 100-250k, and above 250k is upper class.
This is all in USD.
EDIT: These are all depending on certain conditions, so I'm thinking of these numbers based on the average family. - well i'm on £10,000 or less and thats for a family of 4 so im definitely poor i'd say £25,000 is middle class, £40,000 upper
also too the other commenter we are not living beyond our means a lot of things cost more over here (I found this out talking too an American currently living in Wisconsin - I consider a person to be below poverty level when he cannot pay his hospital bill in a year. If a person cannot live in the town in which he lives because of the high cost of rent, groceries, lacking basic necessities, he is impoverished.
