Why do some Black people still sometimes use the N-word (in whatever spelling or context) and should they stop, yes or no? Explain your answer either way. I hate the N-word and I have black friends who have used it. I never use it. But, as a non-Black person, I also try to avoid even the appearance of telling Black persons what they should or should not do or say. But I've heard a few use it now. I don't understand. .

I'm from South Africa, and the equivalent to that is "Kaffer" , and black people here don't use it But in the USA I hear them use it??? I find these words so painful as a Black women, But the word nigger is gotten normal to me cause its said sooooo many times in hiphop music. But I don't think it should be said
Other Answers:
- Nobody should ever use that word, white or black, period.
- I don't like when people use that word but I'm black its just the fact of us being black they think its ok because weather your black or white I will have an attitude if called that

But I don't think it should be said - First let me say that I'm not from the US so my experience with African American's using the n-word among each other is very limited. Generally, I don't like it.
Their using it probably means that they don't feel diminished by it (as long as it isn't used in a hateful way by either another black or a white person... or just any other person in general) so I don't find anything wrong with it. I've read some theories of how some black people use the n-word as a subconscious way of putting themselves down... seriously, I don't believe that.
Since white people coined the term in a very racist manner those really shouldn't use that word, but it black people want to use it I'm not gonna tell them not to do so. If it's changed its meaning and became more of a casual or acceptable thing to say - why not? I'll never stop feeling a little awkward in those moments, but my personal perception doesn't matter that much. - Personally I feel like each person is entitled to their opinion and if they wish to use it then they should but as long as it's not in a racist or violent way. I don't use it myself but often hear it around, it is used less here in England though so I suppose it doesn't effect me as much.
- It's disparaging, disrespectful, and just outright common. I've never liked using it.
