I've heard feminism is destroying the "christian family", how do you think feminism does this?

Asked by Silent Bob at 05 May,2013
Are they referring to feminists not being "submissive" to their husbands? Top contributor, unfortunately the happiness of the adult does matter more. The adults are the leaders of the children, it shouldn't be the other way around. It maybe the child's up bringing but it is the parents life. Al bundy, didn't Peggy dominate you constantly? Lol I love married with children:) Ya coffee, Christianity definitely shows its self as a middle easter religion in its barbaric treatment of women and it barbaric ideals toward women. Rawr, I actually referencing a post made on spirituality and religion section.

The Christian family is about men lording it over women. Clearly if women consider themselves equal, men cannot properly control them. Ephesians 5:22 - 25* Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so [let] the wives [be] to their own husbands in every thing. If women think for themselves and do not submit in everything to their husband says - sexist Christians will be horrified.

Other Answers:
  1. If a woman is free to leave an unhappy marriage, there will be more divorces and more children growing up in single-parent homes.

So, basically, many Christians think that feminism has the potential to place the happiness of an adult woman above the happiness of a child.

I suppose it can be a bit of a trade-off.
  2. maybe you like being dominated by he-men like me, Al Bundy

  4. I think the christian family is self-destructing quite nicely of its own accord.

The societal move towards gender and sexual equality shows the cracks in the christian nuclear family so who cares?

Equality, fairness and civil rights are more important in the here and now (and in the future) than an outdated, nonsensical religious fairytale that makes demands on its followers that are unfair at best and cruel at worst.
  5. first of all, that was me who said that, and i am not actually an anti-feminist, i was just paraphrasing anti-feminists and their views. feminism does not destroy the christian family. human beings are still free to consensually choose that type of patriarchal lifestyle. christians just feel persecuted because their ideologies aren't being enforced on others as much anymore. its similar to the whole "if gays can get married it will destroy christian marriages" fallacy.

    EDIT

"Rawr, I actually referencing a post made on spirituality and religion section."

oh. i said literally the exact same thing with that exact wording like two posts ago. i guess it wasn't so much of a paraphrase then, was it? its verbatim what they say lol.
  6. Well I guess your thinking of christian families as being old fashioned families - so the husband working, wife at home with the kids - aren't some christians against birth control too ? against abortion.. even sex before marriage ?

Obviously feminism would often conflict with some of these ideas, certainly if they were forced on women.

This is pretty stereotypical though - I don't know what a 'christian family' is supposed to mean. Im sure there are christians who have very modern (non-patriarchal ?) families

But anyway, I dont think feminists should dissuade women from certain lifestyles - especially if they are religious choices.

i think its fair to say feminism disagrees or frowns upon certain lifestyle choices. But to say it destroys christian families is overstating it.

*infact, I would say its the modern world that is destroying these old fashioned christian familes more than anything. modern culture and society.
  7. I think the people who wrote the bible and passed on it's ancient oral tradition understood human nature better than most of us do today. Christianity does demand women submit to their husbands. Though, not quite in the way anti-christians believe. Nevertheless, it kept the family unit together.

Now with "no fault" divorces we are seeing something emerge that many didn't predict: Women are breaking apart the families. The same women we are to believe are the nurturers of humanity are initiating 70% of all divorces while doing all they can to take everything they can from their ex-husbands.

I have no proof of this, but I think ancient religious leaders understood, on some level, this every thing would occur if women did not "submit."

I'm not saying it's right. I think all humans should have equal opportunities regardless of the consequences of such rights. But, there is definitely a crisis in the family.

I advocate that no man ever get married or have children. Then, there would be no divorces, no confiscation of male assets "for the children", and no child custody fights. Problem solved!!
  8. Apparently if you are not doing exactly as they do you are somehow ruining their religion, family, group, clan, whatever. They care so much about what other people are doing. They care about women aborting their kids. They care about women having sex before marriage. They care about gays getting married. Why dont they care about butting the hell out and stop trying to make drones of everyone?
  9. If Christian families are being destroyed its Christian families fault not feminism. Feminism is just about women and men being treated fairly. The only feminism has done is shown some women they aren't being treated fairly. Men's wants and needs should never be placed higher than women's. If Christian families are putting men on a pedestal then maybe they should fail. No gender is anymore important than the other.
