Are you surprised by homophobia when you come across it?

Asked by Woody Red at 03 May,2013
I am. And racism.. its like "really ? - in 2013 youre gonna be prejudiced against people on the basis of race or sexuality ?" people are free to have their own opinions obviously, Im just always surprised when I come across these sorts of attitudes. does wanting to have fathers more involved in their children lives make me a homophobe ? explain how that works please ? youre implying maybe Im against same sex couples raising children ? Im not against that, no. nor have I ever posted anything remotely suggesting that Im against that.. or homophobic. quite the opposite actually. I support what beliefs ? mens rights ? lol - gay men are men also - so I don't see how supporting mens rights is homophobic ! my actions ?

you mean like how you always sob about kids needing both a mother and a father, and then in the next sentence claim you're not a homophobe? EDIT oh nothing, i just find it amusing that you support the very beliefs that are used to deny gay people families, and then claim that you are not anti-gay. EDIT oh, i know that your "beliefs" are not anti-gay. it's just your actions that are, and that's sooo much better. EDIT cool. so we can expect to see no more angry tirades from you about the decline of the "traditional family" then? "Rawr, I disagree with Woody quite often, but I don't see how he is homophobic at all. He wants children to have two parents, that's all." and i disagree with you, because i've been here for months and i've repeatedly seen woody cry about how children deserve to have a mother and a father, because little boys need a father, or whatever. that used to be all he ever did here, although in the past few months he has moved on to other topics finally. these attitudes perpetuate homophobia and discrimination against gays.

  2. People are entitled to their opinions so no I'm not surprised.

Rawr makes no sense, what does wanting both parents have to do with homophobia?

@moto, where is the four questions in a row, I don't see it, you're lying.http://answers.yahoo.com/dir/index;_ylt=AkmkEUc2489nTt9D4H0HTe4Yxgt.;_ylv=3?sid=396545307

@Hannah , Are you disgusted about about two women having sex?
  3. You've asked four questions at the same time, which means this is nothing more than a rant.
  4. I've said countless times that gay people don't bother me. What DOES bother me is the thought of 2 men having sex. I can't help that, that's just my reaction to it. But them as people? No. It makes no difference to me. As long as i don't think about them "doing it", then fine.

People get annoyed with me about that, but what can i do! I can't make myself like marmalade, and i can't make myself like the thought of "that". It's the same thing.

And i like how people always attack me for saying this, even when i tell them about my gay friend telling me "women's bodies are disgusting. There's lumps and bumps everywhere". That's exactly what he said to me. (It's one of those weird, random things that i will always remember lol) Was i offended? Of course not. I actually laughed, even though some would say he was being "offensive".

Well, i wasn't offended by my friends disgust at my body, and he didn't care that i didn't think much of his sexual activities. He actually used to go on and on about it trying to wind me up lol

People are too sensitive these days. I can be good friends with people when i don't agree with all they do. Simple as that really
  5. I'm rarely surprised by it. In fact, I'm very used to seeing it and hearing it almost daily, be it in the media, in real life, on the internet, etc. But it isn't always homophobia, I think that's too nice of a word for it. Bigotry is what it really is.

As for your pro-gay attitude, that's something I've always agreed with and I think it's strange that anyone is questioning your stance on homophobia. We don't always agree or even get along most of the time, but I do appreciate your support of the LGBT community and I can say I've never seen an anti-gay comment from you in GS.
  6. I'm an old man and it doesn't surprise me.
My inherent ability to disregard bigotry was not across the board among my generation. Much depends on the parents as the family unit is typically the most influential source in the impressionable youthful mind. Subsequently, the prejudice can transcend indefinitely f/ one generation to the next ... particularly among the "education challenged". It might take the "apple falling away f/ the tree" to break the chain.
    My parents broke the chain.

  7. Sometimes.

A girl at work randomly started making fun of gays & lesbians. She said a lot of really derogatory things that really upset me. For no reason she just was rambling all this sh*t. I happen to be bi so some of the insulting things she was mocking in acts done were personally insulting even. I some how maintained my composure & just defended the subject at hand rather then insulting her fat @ss back (she really shouldn't be running her mouth full blast about peoples lifestyles) none of the lezs or bis I know would scissor her @as anyways.
  8. Rawr, I disagree with Woody quite often, but I don't see how he is homophobic at all. He wants children to have two parents, that's all. When he talks about single mothers, that is because it is the most common. It is harder for gay couples to have children, so a child being left with one gay parent is much less common. You're confusing him with conservatives who hold the "one man, one woman" belief.

Edit: I've been here for three years, what's your point? When he says children need a father, he isn't attacking gay marriage or gay parents - he isn't even commenting on it. Two separate issues =^-*=!

Anyways, no, I'm not surprised. I live in the rural midwest, it's everywhere.
  9. the majority of people i've encountered who are very openly homophobic or racist are usually well-rounded in their ignorance and hatred. so it's rarely a shocker.
  10. Really? Wow you must be really young. Racism, sexism, hatred of gays, etc. etc. have been around a LONG time and will always be around. I'm not the least bit surprised. Frankly I am surprised there isn't more of it. Most people I know feel that way. I think the media has just brainwashed people into being afraid to speak their minds. If people were really free to speak there minds, there would be A LOT more of it.

I think you are also confusing homophobia for just shear hatred. Most straight men abhor gay men. It isn't fear, it is hatred.
  11. yes the other day i was yelling at some fags out in the street and this kid was like omg those guys are gay??? and then he started running away screaming like he was real scared or something dunno why gays are weak
